Ocular Axial Length Measurement Using Regular Ultrasound and IOL Master for Different Refractive Errors in Egyptian Population

چکیده
Background and Objective: The main purpose of this paper is to compare the reliability and repeatability of data obtained clinically with the IOL Master with those using a standard applanation ultrasound biometry on different refractive error types to measure axial length. Patients and Methods: 39 patients were examined by both the IOL Master and the Sonomed for axial length measurement and IOL Master and manual Keratometer for measuring corneal curvatures. Patients were categorized into 3 groups according to refractive error. Results: A total of 39 eyes of 39 patients; 21 (53.8%) males and 18 (46.2%) females in the mean (±SD) age of 57.4 (±7.7), range (43-75) years were assessed. Wilcoxon signed rank test p-value comparing the whole study groups as one group revealed a mean axial length measurement by IOL Master of 24.7mm with a (SD± of 2.4), a minimum of 21mm and a maximum of 30.6 mm. compared to Sonomed measurements of 24.6mm with a (SD± of 2.4), a minimum of 20.95mm and a maximum of 30.17mm. and a p -value of 0.002 which is of great statistical significance. Conclusion: There is a favorable difference for IOL Master but Ultrasound biometry remains essential in cases of media opacities.

Background and Objective: Ocular biometry refers to the measurement of the axial length of the eye and thickness of the intraocular structures. This process is routinely performed for all patients before cataract surgery. The accuracy of the biometric data is directly associated with the refractive status after cataract surgery. Currently, two methods of biometry, namely ultrasound and optical ...
متن کاملComparison of IOL--master and ultrasound biometry in preoperative intra ocular lens (IOL) power calculation.
Postoperative refractive outcome largely depends on the accuracy of calculating power of implanted IOL. Lens power calculation can be done by conventional ultrasound biometry and partial coherence laser interferometry (IOL Master). The aim was to compare the accuracy of IOL power calculations using conventional ultrasound biometry and partial coherence laser interferometry.40 eyes were included...
متن کاملAccuracy of intraocular lens power calculations using the Zeiss IOL master. A prospective study.
PURPOSE Partial Coherence Interferometry (PCI) is a fast, noncontact method to calculate lens implant power for cataract surgery. It has been reported as a potentially more accurate method than ultrasound biometry. Prospective study of the refractive outcomes of a consecutive series of patients undergoing phacoemulsification surgery with preoperative biometry by both ultrasound A-scan and PCI. ...

WHILE the IOLMaster has become an indispensable tool for pre-operative assessment of cataract patients, it is important to understand its limitations, reported British researchers at the 8th ESCRS Winter Refractive Surgery meeting. “Accurate and precise biometry is one of the key factors in obtaining a good refractive outcome after cataract surgery. An error of only 1.0 mm in axial length will r...
متن کاملThe Correlation between Angle Kappa and Ocular Biometry in Koreans
PURPOSE To investigate normative angle kappa data and to examine whether correlations exist between angle kappa and ocular biometric measurements (e.g., refractive error, axial length) and demographic features in Koreans. METHODS Data from 436 eyes (213 males and 223 females) were analyzed in this study. The angle kappa was measured using Orbscan II. We used ocular biometric measurements, inc...
